Guitar Hero World Tour: The Stats
Guitar Hero World Tour—initially titled Guitar Hero IV—is Activision’s newest offering of the music video game that is turning everyone from overexcited tweens to out-of-shape sixty-year-olds into shredding, pounding, and singing superstars. Guitar Hero’s fourth installment, the Guitar Hero World Tour competition, is available in PC and Mac versions as well as for the usual suspects, Play Station 2, Play Station 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. And (finally!) with a full band video game experience, you can live out your rockstar fantasies from your own family room as more than just a solo act…and unlike many real-life rockers, without the baggage of a rap sheet or an out-of-control ego.
With Guitar Hero World Tour competitions, BringIt members can strut their stuff onstage, master the range of musical instruments, and sing their hearts out to the largest collection of music video game on-disc tracks, including selections from Metallica, Van Halen, The Doors, Ozzy Osbourne, Tool, Lenny Kravitz, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Jane’s Addiction, Billy Idol, Blondie, Muse, Interpol, R.E.M., Oasis, Coldplay, No Doubt, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Smashing Pumpkins, Michael Jackson, and many others. Not only does BringIt unite faux frontmen from all over the globe to compete safely and securely for cash in Guitar Hero World Tour challenges, it saves you from another night with your brother on bass.
Online Guitar Hero World Tour Tournaments: Features & Upgrades
While some of the basics have stayed the same (i.e. the guitar-shaped controllers that form the basis of Guitar Hero), much has been improved upon for Guitar Hero World Tour. Specifically, Guitar Hero World Tour differs from previous installments as follows:
- Full-band format—the game’s most major advancement—means the Guitar Hero World Tour battle now includes drums and vocals for a complete band video game, pseudo-stadium experience
- Music Studio mode—unbelievably (and unfortunately in some cases) allows “musicians” to record original content, then upload it for sharing via the GHTunes service
- New and upgraded instrument controllers—including a redesigned and more highly responsive simulated guitar and a six-piece, lifelike drum kit—allow for up to four-part harmony comprised of vocals, drums, bass, and guitar…resulting in a more realistic rock-n’-roll sound
- Create-a-Rocker mode—which utilizes the same cutting-edge character creation system as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09—enables Guitar Hero WT fans to take avatars from past Guitar Hero video games and customize them in terms of age, attire, makeup, and even tattoos
- Multiple play modes—including both off and online Guitar Hero World Tour battles—allow you to take advantage of an enhanced single-player Career Mode (where you can rotate between instruments without relaunching your career) or go with the group format, Band Career mode, similar to Rock Band 2’s Band World Tour
- Beginner mode—a level lower than “Easy,” Guitar Hero III’s most simple selection—opens up the pool of Guitar Hero WT competitors, enabling more trainees to take the stage
- More music—both included and downloadable—makes the Guitar Hero World Tour tournament fun whether you’re a fan of Los Lobos or Linkin Park
- More virtual venues—such as the House of Blues Sunset Strip, San Francisco’s AT&T Park, Ozzfest, and Amoeba Music—allow you to inspire audiences in some of the world’s most magical musical settings
