Madden NFL 10 Tournaments: The Stats
Slated for release August 1, 2009 by EA Sports, Madden NFL 10 will be the 21st installment of the popular Madden video game football franchise. And it’s already generating a buzz…both good and bad. On a negative note, the name. I mean “Madden NFL 10”—the name currently gearing up to be the launch title—just doesn’t roll off the tongue; add in the fact that calling the 21st edition of something “10” is a little misleading.
Regarding name selection for Madden NFL 10 video game challenges, rumor online is that EA was initially expected to go with the name “Madden NFL 2010,” which is a bit better in that it flows easier and is certainly a more accurate description. In fact, one online pollster put the name selection to a vote, giving gamers the choice of four alternate titles: (the anticipated) Madden NFL 10, Madden NFL 2010, Madden NFL 20-10, and Madden NFL XXI. As of March 27th, with over 1,700 votes cast, Madden NFL 10 was in last place in the name competition, with only 7% of the vote. Meanwhile, Madden NFL 2010 was leading the pack with over half (59%)! As to whether EA heeds player opinion, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Online Madden NFL 10 Tournaments: Expected Features & Upgrades
While still in the development phase, the producers, technologists, and artists tasked with creating the online Madden NFL10 battle are promising a spectacular sequel (you can actually follow the development process as well as weigh in with your feedback by visiting the producers’ “Get Inside EA Sports” blog). But honestly, all the back-and-forth BS about Madden NFL10 versus Madden 2010 isn’t all that essential when compared to how the game looks, and most importantly, plays.
So while we won’t really know until August 1st when gamers get the Madden NFL 10 challenge in their anxiously awaiting hands, some of the early announcements regarding feature upgrades are as follows:
- Improved weather graphics—feature snow that doesn't just flurry, but actually piles up, and a faint blue hue that envelopes the environment, adding a cold-weather feel for winter games; gameplay and celebrations are also pragmatically impacted by weather conditions.
- Additional environmental enhancements—include a more realistic daylight/darkness scale-making Madden NFL 09 competitions feel more like chilly challenges played at dusk during the traditional fall football season. Heightened details further add to the game's allure (I'm talking super-sharp blades of grass).
- Upgraded player graphics—mean the look of athletes, field, and stadium are also vastly improved, causing earlier representations to feel subpar (although they seemed pretty damn cool at the time).
- Procedural Awareness—the Madden NFL 10 competition’s newest bit of technological genius—provides Madden players with a highly evolved, next-gen version of head tracking (a means of dynamically adjusting players’ heads to face a target), allowing smoother, more natural behavior when locking and zoning in on a target.
- Significantly enhanced graphics—the result of a new design team (including contributors from NFL Head Coach 09)—make the look and feel of the field, fans, and athletes even more realistic than the 2009 edition.
- Reintroduced PC version—nixed from the 09 edition—reappears for the Madden 2010 release.
- New player-ranking philosophy
- Increased realism in QB and WR/DB play
