NCAA Football 09 Tournaments: The Stats

The NCAA Football 09 video game challenge, published by EA Sports, is the 2009 version of the video game that enables would-be ballers to battle it out on the college football field. NCAA Football09 is available in four console-specific versions, each with cover-art featuring a different former collegiate athlete (displaying active student athletes violates NCAA regulations). NCAA Football 2009 for Xbox 360 features ex-Arkansas running back Darren McFadden; NCAA Football 09 for Playstation 2 highlights previous California wide receiver DeSean Jackson; former Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan appears on the Play Station 3 cover; and the NCAA Football 09 competition for PSP features former West Virginia fullback Owen Schmitt.

Cover-art for the Wii version of NCAA Football09 competitions-titled NCAA Football 09 All-Play and launched under EA's new All-Play line-was turned over to the fans. EA initiated its own competition and invited players to vote for their favorite college mascot, the winner of which would grace the cover of this inaugural Wii edition. In the end, Michigan State's Sparty dominated the poll to earn the coveted NCAA Football 09 All-Play cover honor.

Online NCAA Football 09 Tournaments: Features & Upgrades

Gamers loyal to the genre of college football video games will notice a number of upgrades and additions to the NCAA Football 09 battle, making the difference between NCAA Football 2008 and NCAA Football 2009 akin to the distinction between playing for school pride and playing pro:

  • Improved stadium environment & effects—immerse gamers in the excitement of the stadium experience and provide a more realistic on-the-field feeling; specifically, texture has gone through the roof (you can now tell the difference between turf and real grass in NCAA Football battles as well as witness “field degradation” during play), lighting is more fine tuned (dusk is not so dark that you can't see shadowed players in supreme detail), and the crowds come alive with advanced graphics and increased use of home-crowd colors
  • New animation system—enables players of online NCAA Football 09 challenges to string together a number of combo moves for a smoother style of play
  • Quarterback Quiz—allows gamers to actually affect quarterback composure after throwing an interception; post-throw, the player is shown a series of photos and given a choice between three defensive strategies…if he selects appropriately, he regains his composure for future possessions. On the other hand, incorrect quiz selection results in negative consequences, which include becoming more flustered by rival crowds
  • Family Play mode—the most significant addition to the college football video game-seriously simplifies gameplay for beginners…down to the single press of a button; it also directs the greenest of gamers when to press it and suggests plays appropriate for various situations
  • Mascot Challenge—breaks down the basics of common actions and allows NCAA Football 09 video game fans to advance upwards from the junior varsity level
  • Dynasty mode enhancements—improve preparation, letting gamers train using opponents' playbooks and against various obstacles, such as crowd commotion
